HOW TO PREVENT WRINKLES

While genetics certainly have an effect on how our skin ages, environmental factors have the greatest impact on wrinkles and uneven skin tone. This post will explain some basic steps you can take to help protect your skin and minimize the effects of aging.

#1 – Watch out for the sun. Sun exposure is the number one cause of skin damage and premature aging. Sunburns, and even casual sun exposure can cause damage to your skin in the long run, and even skin cancer. Using a high quality physical sunscreen (ours is coming soon!), wearing a wide brim hat, and staying out of the sun can help reduce your sun exposure.

When traveling, be especially mindful of sun protection if the sun will be stronger at your destination. Also, airplanes do not filter out UVA rays, so make sure to put on sunscreen even when traveling. Certain medications (such as antibiotics), skin care products, and skin care treatments can increase sensitivity to the sun. Be mindful of this when choosing anti-aging creams and skin treatments.

#2 – Don’t smoke. Smoking is the number two cause of environmental aging. Quitting smoking can have dramatic effects on the function of the body, and help reduce wrinkles. Although women’s skin is more affected by smoking than men’s, smoking still negatively impacts men’s skin. Skin tone and color can also be improved by not smoking. Smoking impacts areas other than just the face as well, including the neck and arms.

#3 – Drink plenty of water. Proper hydration can play a key role in skin health and reducing the effects of aging. Adequate water consumption helps your kidneys filter out toxins and can help keep your skin hydrated. If your kidneys can properly filter out the toxins, they may never reach your skin in the first place. Water can also help minimize the look of sunken eyes and dark circles under the eyes.

#4 – Eat a balanced and healthy diet. Nutrients play a vital role in the health of your skin. Eating right allows your body to function at its highest level, which in turn will help your skin look its best. Please read our Men's Guide To Eating Healthy for more information.

#5 – Get plenty of sleep. While we sleep our body repairs itself and regenerates. Getting 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep can be important for your overall health, including your skin. Caution: You should sleep on your back to avoid sleep wrinkles, which can turn into permanent wrinkles over time. Adequate sleeping time can also help reduce under eye bags and puffiness.

Following these tips could help prevent or delay the appearance of wrinkles. To repair damage to your skin, consider our Men's Anti-Aging Cream, which has Vitamin C, peptides, Hyaluronate acid, and Green Tea, which help repair and thicken damaged and aging skin.
